The Cloud and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) represent the future of information technology as companies from different industries consolidate their data centers. According to a Gartner press release, Inc., Vice President of Research at Gartner , the global cloud-based utilities market is expected to grow 17% to $266.4 billion by 2020, an increase of $227.8 billion by 2019.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is expected to grow by 24% per year to $50 billion by 2020, the highest growth rate of all cloud computing segments1. The IT workload is shifting to cloud-based solutions such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and the Google Cloud platform, while companies are seeking the benefits of scalability, cost and even security.
This step is related to the fact that sensitive data stored in cloud computing or lift-shift applications are stored in the public cloud. According to IDC, by 2025 49% of the stored data in the world will be in a public cloud 2 environment. According to the latest MVISION Cloud IaaS CARR report, companies actively exfiltrating data in the IaaS currently see an average of 5,314 events per month. This is 248% more than last year, when the average number of companies was 1527. You could check here AWS Cloud management.
It is therefore very important for organisations to exercise political control over the data stored in the cloud. In addition, the report also shows that downloaded documents contain sensitive information such as personal information (PII), protected medical information (PMI), payment card details or intellectual property, leading to compliance issues in the cloud. As a result, security teams should increasingly seek to extend their data loss prevention policies to data in the cloud to minimize exposure.
McAfee MVISION Cloud, the leader in the Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) market, provides a leading solution for preventing data loss in the cloud (DLP) that enables organizations to extend their DLP policies to where their information is in the cloud today, whether it’s SaaS applications or IaaS storage. DLP policies can be consistently applied to SaaS and IaaS services. McAfee now supports IaaS CSP as well as AWS and Azure. As a result, real-time and on-demand (ODS) scanning DLP policies are available for IaaS and SaaS services. What’s more, you can use existing DLP policies for IaaS services without making any changes – because the same rules apply as now. The same – the quarantine action configured in the policy is executed automatically.
This gives organizations incredible flexibility in enforcing theft/loss protection policies and compliance with regulations such as PCI DSS, HIPAA-HITECH, GLBA, SOX, CIPA, FISMA and FERPA. These guidelines help in applying extensive controls based on keywords, regular expressions, file properties, data indicators, etc. Customers can use pre-installed or vertical specific templates for fast implementation.
In addition to DLP capability, the MVISION platform also offers real-time and on-demand scanning capabilities for malware detection using the McAfee Global Threat Intelligence (GTI) database. In other words: Each time a file is created, modified or restored, it can be scanned for DLP and malware in real time and automatically quarantined.
If you are an existing MVISION client in the cloud with access to the IaaS DLP functionality, it should be automatically activated for you. If you need more help setting up or using this feature, please contact MVISION Cloud Support.
